? 2021 Elsevier LtdSevere Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is characterized by numerous complications, complex disease, and high mortality, making its treatment a top priority in the treatment of COVID-19. Integrated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine played an important role in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of COVID-19 during the epidemic. However, currently there are no evidence-based guidelines for the integrated treatment of severe COVID-19 with TCM and western medicine. Therefore, it is important to develop an evidence-based guideline on the treatment of severe COVID-19 with integrated TCM and western medicine, in order to provide clinical guidance and decision basis for healthcare professionals, public health personnel, and scientific researchers involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of COVID-19 patients. We developed and completed the guideline by referring to the standardization process of the “WHO handbook for guideline development”, the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system, and the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT).

Dry eye is now one of the most common superficial disorders in ophthalmology at home and abroad, and more and more people attach importance to the study. The ideal approach for treatment of dry eye is to normalize the condition by rebuilding the superficial circumstance of the eye, and to make tear film work as well as possible so as to relieve the irritating symptoms in the eye. The authors are making a comprehensive discussion on the methods and curative effects of treating dry eye by traditional Chinese medicine and by integrative Chinese and Western medicine in recent years, so as to introduce the distinctive features of the traditional Chinese medicine and integrative Chinese and Western medicine in this field.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial illness with an increasingly high global prevalence and multiple risk factors that widely influences patients’ daily lives. It is essential to identify treatments with few or no side effects for patients with DED. We have reviewed studies published from 2001 to 2020 that investigated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and integrated Chinese and Western medicine for DED treatment. Current Chinese medicines used in DED therapy were categorized into four types, namely anti?oxidants, anti?inflammatory agents, hormone?like agents, and cell?repairing agents. Compound herbs, including Chi?Ju?Di?Huang?Wan and Qiming granule, can effectively alleviate dry eye symptoms. Moreover, patients with DED who were treated with Western medicine combined with TCM experienced significantly magnified therapeutic effects and reasonable costs of treatment. In conclusion, TCM can be a promising approach for treating DED, and combined treatment with TCM and Western drugs may represent a new strategy for improving the curative effect.

BACKGROUND:Western medicine has played an essential role in treating poststroke insomnia (PSI) in China, and traditional Chinese medicine therapy based on Chinese characteristics is also effective. Combined with China's national conditions, we plan to conduct this systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the efficacy of integrated traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine (INTEGRATED TCM and WM) therapy and Western medicine alone for PSI.METHODS:We will search the following 5 electronic databases: PubMed, Wanfang, Chinese biomedical literature database, the Chongqing VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodical, and China national knowledge infrastructure. Randomized controlled trials that compared the efficacy of INTEGRATED TCM and WM with Western medicine alone in the treatment of PSI will be considered. Primary outcomes have Treatment effectiveness rate, and Pittsburgh sleep quality index. Secondary outcomes include traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score, Athens insomnia scale, the incidence of adverse reactions, and outcome follow-up. Based on the eligibility criteria, we will conduct literature screening and data extraction. The quality of the included literature will be evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias tools. We will use Review Manager software (Version 5.3) for data synthesis and statistical analyses. If sources of heterogeneity exist, we will perform a subgroup analysis or sensitivity analysis. A funnel plot will be used to analyze publication bias.RESULTS:This study will provide evidence-based medicine evidence for treatment of PSI with INTEGRATED TCM and WM in terms of its efficacy.CONCLUSION:This systematic review aims to provide new options for INTEGRATED TCM and WM treatment of PSI in terms of its efficacy.Copyright ? 2021 the Author(s). Acupuncture can be conveniently used for pain control in patients with a variety of conditions, and it has obvious effects on various acute pains. In 2018, we implemented a program for emergency treatment with Chinese medicine to promote the integration of Chinese and Western medicine at the Emergency Department (ED). Ileus is a common cause of abdominal pain among patients in the ED, and it is an indication for emergency treatment with Chinese medicine. This study investigated the efficacy of acupuncture as a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)-based treatment method for the treatment of patients with ileus in the ED. We analyzed data of patients with ileus, who visited ED between January and December 2019, and compared the length of ED stay between the Western medicine group and the Western medicine plus acupuncture group. Furthermore, pain intensity was measured by a visual analogue scale before and after acupuncture. We found that the length of ED stay was 10.8 hours lesser in the Western medicine plus acupuncture group than in the Western medicine group (P?=?.04), and the visual analogue scale score decreased by 2.0 on average from before to after acupuncture treatment (P?=?.02). Acupuncture treatment was effective and rapid in relieving the symptoms and discomfort in patients with ileus and in reducing their length of stay in the ED.Copyright ? 2022 the Author(s). This is an interesting book to read. The author is a physician (gynecologist) trained in China in both Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In this book, she compiles her experience in treating a variety of medical conditions. The writing is simple and easy to follow. For each problem reviewed, Western and Eastern explanations of the condition are presented, followed by the author's approach to management, and finally, case reports or testimonials. The book is divided into several sections looking at a variety of medical conditions: panic disorder, women's illness, dental care, as well as a variety of other medical conditions. In the first chapter, the author discusses her approach to the management of panic disorder. She offers a simple and easy-to-use approach for treatment using the Plum Needle Tapping over the Back Shu points. The information is supported by several testimonials from patients treated by Dr Chen.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR), one of the most common microvascular complications of diabetic mellitus, is currently the main cause of adult-acquired blindness. The pathogenesis of DR is complex and the current clinical application of various treatment methods cannot completely prevent the development of this disease. Many reports have been published regarding the treatment of DR with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which has received increasing attention from medical practitioners worldwide. Studies published between 1994 and April 2017 were collected from the CNKI, VIP, Medline and Web of Science databases, as well as from Chinese traditional books and Chinese Pharmacopoeia, subsequently obtaining more than 550 studies. Thereafter, the status quo of DR treatment using TCM had been summarized according to four aspects - compound formula therapy, Chinese herbal medicine extracts and monomer therapy, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy, and Chinese medicine external treatment. According to the literature reviewed herein, TCM has had definite effects on the prevention and treatment of DR, especially when used in combination with modern medical methods. However, the lack of a unified standard on the syndrome differentiation of DR and the lack of support of evidence-based medicine theory in clinical practice have been consistent concerns in previous research studies and needs to be addressed in subsequent studies.
